Is preferential shuffling up to the dealer or do they have a cue when to do it? Won't this make the game unfair for the players at the table?
what do you think of preferential shuffling?

I think this is up to the dealer at the table when to shuffle in the middle of a game like blackjack that can have many decks used. When the house is losing a lot the dealer may opt to shuffle the cards to shift the advantage or stop the momentum a player may have during the game.

From what I heard preferential shuffling is done, aside from what is said in the above post, so that card counters lose their edge in the game. The dealer or casino, if they suspect that a player is counting cards may use preferential shuffling and this is legal in casinos.
Preferntial shuffling is not so common anymore. For ordinary blackjack players it doesn't even matter.
